Kobe Bryant had a very successful career because of Phil Jackson, and they won 5 NBA championships with Los Angeles Lakers.
Recently, Phil said that Carmelo Anthony should play somewhere else, and that was a big hit for Melo and even Porzingis, as well.
Kobe shared his opinion with Marc Berman of the New York Post:
“Not from what I’ve been through with Phil. Michael [Jordan] had his rough times with him as well. The history is you get through rough times after you win a good amount of championships. We certainly had our rocky times, but we still stuck to it, we figured out our way through it and came out better because of it. I think the most important thing is sticking to it, being patient. Sometimes things work out. Sometimes they don’t.”
“From my experience, from what I had with Phil — again it’s a different situation, he was coaching the team — but you can get through rocky times. They certainly were there in Chicago and when he was in L.A. But the championships can overshadow that.’’
Kobe also added that he and Phil are still in touch and share interesting stories to one another about different things.
We stay in touch via text or if I’m out there, we grab breakfast together, we talk about philosophical things, talk about film. When he first got [to Los Angeles], me being 21, a young man, then him being able to watch me grow up, with a family, career, transitioning to the next stage of life and the relationship we have today, it’s pretty awesome to see it come full circle.’’
It will be very interesting to see what will be the next move of Phil Jackson. Many reports shown us that Carmelo Anthony will not play for the Knicks next season, but we have to see where New York Knicks will trade one of the best small forwards in the league.
