It seems the Kristaps saga goes a lot deeper than we thought.
We know that he has been unhappy with the direction of the organization for some time, and we know he had a meeting with the Knicks in which he expressed his dissatisfaction. What we didn't know was that it was Kristaps' disdain for the Knicks that was pushing back his return date.
After tearing his ACL last season, Porzigis has been rehabbing in hopes of returning to strength for 2018/19. Instead, we're finding out that, while there is no faking a torn ACL, he may have prolonged his absence to avoid playing for the team.
And he had a valid reason for concern. The Knicks have been a mess since long before Carmelo Anthony's arrival. As the team struggles to make good decisions, Kristaps got caught in a whirlwind of fire and drama, which both consumed the organization.
How was Kristaps to trust a team in his return from injury if they failed to do everything else?
It was a very cold and controversial move by Kristaps, one that may impact his legacy in the future. But it's also one that forced him out of New York, a move that will likely pay off for him in the long run.
