Kristaps Porzingis is still working his way back from a torn ACL suffered towards the end of last season. Despite all the rehab, workouts, and pain, his biggest struggle so far is something that has nothing to do with basketball.
According to by the New York Daily News, Kristaps Porzingis is now facing rape allegations from a 29-year-old Navy petty officer originally from Nigeria.
NYPD detectives are investigating a sex assault claim involving ex-Knicks player Kristaps Porzingis, sources told the Daily News on Saturday. Porizingis allegedly assaulted a woman on Feb. 7, 2018, hours after he suffered a knee injury during a game that has stalled his career, the sources said.
One source said the woman reported Porizingis held her down on a bed, punched her several times in the face, and raped her. The woman was reluctant to report the case because she didn’t want to hurt Porizingis’s career, the source said.
The NBA player’s lawyer, Roland G. Riopelle, called the woman’s rape claim “patently false," saying his client went to federal law enforcement in December to complain the woman is trying to extort him.
“All sex was consensual," Riopelle told The News. "I think there’s going to be no doubt about that when all the facts come out.”
As the investigation progresses, more will be revealed about the circumstances of their relationship. Hopefully, things are not as they seem.
Either way, this is a nasty bit of business that may have long term repurcussions on Porzingis' career if it lingers for too long.
