It seems like Magic Johnson has done it once again, building yet another dynasty for the Los Angeles Lakers upon LeBron James’ reported signing that will see him dressed in purple and gold for 4 years.
The team is aggressively trying to go back to Championship contention following the post-Kobe Bryant era, and now that the King has agreed to join the team, all other pieces are just going to fall in place afterward.
Johnson has been desperate to create another super team and wouldn’t even hesitate to trade away the young studs in order to enter win-now mode, so we could expect a lot of moves to happen over the next couple of days for sure.
Even though the Boston Celtics and the Philadelphia 76ers could offer better deals to get Kawhi Leonard’s services, it seems like the Los Angeles Lakers have become the main frontrunners to land him.
After striking out on Paul George, Johnson is reportedly aggressively pursuing a trade for Kawhi Leonard, and wouldn’t mind parting ways with Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and several picks in order to get him.
It’s also worth mentioning that Kawhi has already opened up about his desire to be in LA and that he will sign with the Lakers when he becomes a free agent, so there’s no much incentive for other teams to make a run at the guard/forward.
DeMarcus Cousins is coming off the best season of his career, but a season-ending injury prevented him from making his long-awaited playoff debut with the New Orleans Pelicans.
And with the Pelicans playing extremely well without him and several teams being extremely cautious to hand him an offer due to his difficult temper and the fact that he’s coming off a major injury, he may be up for grabs for the Lakers to make their move.
Furthermore, he would likely have to take a major pay cut and sign a 2 year deal, but he would finally have the chance to play for a Championship contender, not to mention the fact that a lineup consisting of Lonzo Ball, Kawhi Leonard, LeBron James and DeMarcus Cousins would make the Lakers instant contenders.
