LaVar Ball is back at it with his hot takes and this time they don't involve any of their sons. The Ball patriarch recently spoke his mind about the Portland Trail Blazers, a team with good talent, who is always part of the conversation to animate the league but never get to compete for important stuff in the playoffs.
Ball believes that given the fact that they committed a lot of money to their backcourt, it will be hard for them to win a championship in the near future. Damian Lillard is guaranteed to earn over $250 million through 2025, while CJ McCollum is getting $156 million through 2024. LaVar is convinced that spending that much on two guards was a bad move for the Blazers.
“Look at the Portland Trail Blazers. You got three hundred million tied in two guards. You ain’t never gonna win nothing,” LaVar told Kazeem Famuyide on Say Less with Kaz, as transcribed by TalkBasket. “When you tie up all the money in two players it ain’t gonna happen like that.”
The Trail Blazers reached the Western Conference Finals last season, but they were swept by the Golden State Warriors. This year things haven't been easy for them since players like Jusuf Nurkic and Zach Collins picked up injuries. That's definitely damaged Portland's chances to make the postseason this year.
They are one of the teams invited to the bubble location in Orlando to fight for a playoff spot next month. Things are tough for the Trail Blazers this campaign but they're confident they can have a good run at Walt Disney World and surprise a lot of people.
