LeBron James Has Already Told The Cleveland Cavaliers His Free Agency Plans

Publish date:

It seems as though we may have an early answer to the LeBron free agency rumors.

According to reporter Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson, LeBron James will be informing the Cavs of his free agency intentions in a meeting this Wednesday.

"A source familiar with LeBron James’ thinking told me this afternoon that the Cavs’ free agent-to-be will inform Cleveland whether he plans to stay or go, this Wednesday."

The four-time MVP has until the 29th of June to opt out of the final year of his deal with Cleveland. Whether he stays or looks elsewhere, allowing the Cavaliers to know his intentions will be beneficial for the organization as they can be comfortable making the decision to either trade their 8th pick in the draft for another All-Star or keep the pick for a potential rebuild.

This rumor comes as a surprise to many as this isn’t the way James has operated in recent history. Lebron has been a free agent twice in his career (2010 and 2014) and on both occasions, he decided to leave without discussing his intentions to either organization prior to the Draft.

In 2010, during a television program called ‘The Decision’, LeBron shocked the basketball world when he announced he was leaving Cleveland to join the Miami Heat sparking outrage from Cavaliers fans.

In 2014, he returned to Cleveland, promising to deliver their first ever NBA Championship title.

After achieving his promise and leading the Cavs to the 2016 NBA Championship, LeBron may very well be on his way out again. The Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers have all shown major interest in the star athlete and look to be the frontrunners in the case of him choosing to leave.
