Amid a shortened offseason and new challenges to face in the West, the path to a repeat will not be easy for the Lakeshow. LeBron James has already expressed his team isn't quite where they want to be, and integrating a lot of new players certainly takes time.
But, coming off a Championship season, LeBron and Anthony Davis seem as focused on winning now as they did on day one. In a chat with the media, the basketball legend spoke on the approach he and his partner-in-crime have established heading into this brand new season.
“I want to win at the highest level, and AD wants to do the same. He wants to be one of the best, and we know that championships are the holy grail in this league. To be crowned a champion, to become multiple champions, that’s what it’s all about.
His confidence is out the roof and it’s up to us as his teammates to continue to help his confidence continue to soar."
Davis has been a dominant player since the beginning. After being drafted by New Orleans in 2012, he quickly emerged as one of the league's best big men, averaging 24.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game by his third season.
Of course, it wasn't until he got to the Lakers in 2019 that he experienced real playoff success, winning a title in his first run with LeBron James.
Despite the odds dwindling away from their favor, the pair seem locked-in and determined to make history for the second straight year. For that reason alone, perhaps we should give them the benefit of the doubt.
