LeBron James Recalls His First All-Star Weekend: "First Of All, I’m A Kid From Akron, Ohio And I Was In Los Angeles For My First All-Star Game."

LeBron James is aging like a fine wine and the biggest proof of that is his 17th selection to the All-Star Game. There’s been only one season where he didn’t attend the big game and that shows the quality of player he’s been during his career.

Now part of the Los Angeles Lakers, the 36-year-old is ready to go to Atlanta and participate in another edition of the big game, although he made it clear that he wasn’t so excited about this event since the league had already stated they weren’t going to have an All-Star Game this season.

LeBron seems to be more open about the game, and he even revealed his first time playing in this big event. At the time, he was a part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and his first experience was really cool for him. He wasn’t selected for the ASG but took part in the rookie challenge, discovering a lot of things in the process (6:15 timestamp).

“It was incredible,” James said. “First of all, I’m a kid from Akron, Ohio and I was in Los Angeles for my first All-Star Game. That was an incredible moment for myself, for my family to be here.

"Obviously, I wanted to be in the All-Star Game. Still kind of irks me a little bit. But I got over it. It’s just being here and being around Melo [Carmelo Anthony] and D-Wade [Dwyane Wade] and the rest of the guys.

“Just being part of the festivities something I watched my whole life. I was like ‘Wow, how great it’d be to be a part of All-Star Weekend.’ For it to be my rookie year and for me to be in the Rookie Challenge it is something that I’ll probably never forget. I got an opportunity to wear some dope shoes that night too, the Zoom Generation 1 Wheats. That’s one of my favorite sneakers of all time. I was just hyped. It’s a long time ago.”

James is ready to represent Team LeBron in the big game for the third time since the NBA changed the format of the game. The superstar is trying to repeat the championship with the Lakers and even though Anthony Davis has been sidelined, the veteran is carrying his team.

He will be one of the biggest figures in Atlanta this Sunday, trying to win the game again, this time against Team Durant.
