With the release of NBA 2K22 right around the corner, it’s that time of year where player ratings and badges have become the talk of the town.
This year, just like every year, 2K gave the fans a sneak peek at some of the game’s player ratings, in an obvious attempt to stir conversation and generate hype about the newest installment of the game.
Among those who got their ratings released is Golden State superstar Stephen Curry, who was given a 96 overall rating this year — one of the highest in the game.

Amid debates about the accuracy of the rating, LeBron James chimed in to offer his own opinion, sharing that the number was too low and giving a new, higher rating instead.

Curry is actually tied for the highest rating in the game, putting him on equal footing with LeBron, Kevin Durant, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Considering that fact, Curry’s 96 rating really isn’t all that bad. In fact, it might even be accurate.
Nevertheless, it’s understandable that James (and others) believe he should be even higher.
Over the past few years now, Steph has proven to be, quite literally, the greatest long-distance shooter in basketball history. Having faced Curry several times in the Finals, LeBron knows first-hand what kind of impact this guy has on the game, and he has always been one of the loudest appreciators of his talent.
As for the fans, many of them were, predictably, in great objection to the ratings and many were even a little angry that 2K dared to under rank their favorite players.
In any case, this is a lose-lose situation for 2K. It has become abundantly clear that no matter how high or low 2K places specific players, there are always going to be those who disagree.
33-year-old Steph Curry has not responded to his rating at all, so nobody really knows how he feels about it. But, as is his usual method, we can expect him to let his play do the talking.
Last season, which was one of his best yet, he averaged 32 points per game on 42% shooting from downtown.
