After struggling to prove his worth, 8x All-Star Dwight Howard was given one last chance with the Lakers.
Despite the skepticism, the 34-year-old big man has dominated in his return to Los Angeles. While he's no longer a star, he has accepted his role, played it well, and has become a valuable member of the team.
On Tuesday night, we were given a glimpse of just how good the guy really is. In 26 minutes, D12 went for 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks on a perfect 10-for-10 shooting. It was marvelous but, according to LeBron James, not something he hasn't already seen before.
The 2009 Eastern Conference Finals featured Dwight's Magic against Bron's Cavs. As the King alludes to in his quote, Dwight was an absolute monster back then and was making ridiculous performances somewhat normal for him. It was Howard and his team that knocked James out of the Finals in 2009. And although the Magic would end up losing to the Lakers, even getting there in the first place was one of the shining moments of the franchises' history.
Howard is obviously not the same player today. But watching him turn back the clock a bit -- if even for one game -- was pretty nice to behold. Let's hope he can keep it up and keep being the guy the Lakers need him to be.
