This season wasn't the best one for Lonzo Ball and his New Orleans Pelicans, who had the easiest schedule in the bubble and couldn't make the playoffs. Before the NBA shut down in mid-March, Ball and the Pels were playing great basketball, using Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram as their biggest stars. However, everything changed in Orlando; Zion didn't have as many minutes as before and that hurt the team.

He left the bubble averaging poor numbers, earning a lot of criticism in the process.

Now that's part of the past and Ball is ready to take on a new challenge with the Pelicans. He is confident in his chances to make a leap next season, claiming he could win the Most Improved Player award in 2021. While discussing his decision to sign with Klutch Sports, Ball explained his expectations for the next campaign. Via Malika Andrews of ESPN:

Ball said his goal for next season is to make the playoffs and put himself in contention to follow in teammate Brandon Ingram’s footsteps.“Once we get in the playoffs, we take it one game at a time,” Ball said. “For myself, I think Most Improved Player is definitely something I can get next year.”

This season, Ingram won the MIP award; perhaps next year another Pelicans player will do the same. Lonzo is confident he can turn things around and play like a #2 overall draft pick is supposed to play. Even Damian Lillard tipped him to make a leap next year, so only time will tell what's going to happen with Lonzo's career.

He averaged 11.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7 assists per game this season.
