Luka Doncic had a spectacular performance in Game 2 against the Warriors. He put up 42 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists in the game, and it was clear that he had to empty the clip to have a chance against the Golden State Warriors.
Unfortunately, the Mavericks ended up losing anyway, after blowing a 19-point lead. After the game, Luka Doncic explained what went wrong for the team. He claimed that the Mavericks played "bad defense" and added that they "rely too much on the three" on the offensive end:
Luka Dončić: “Bad defense, that’s it. We got to improve a lot. We rely too much on the three, weren’t attacking the paint much. We have to rely more getting to the paint and kick outs.”
It is true that the Dallas Mavericks have to "improve a lot" if they are to give themselves a chance in this series. While they had a great start to the game, they ended up throwing it away with their subpar shot selection and inconsistent defense.
With that being said, the Dallas Mavericks are clearly still a good team, and it is quite possible that they will win their next two games at home. Luka Doncic will likely continue to play at a high level, and there's no doubt that he'll do his best to ensure that the Dallas Mavericks won't be down 3-0 at the end of Game 3. The Warriors will definitely need some other Mavericks to continue to step up next to him though, as Jalen Brunson and Reggie Bullock managed to do in Game 2.
While the Golden State Warriors definitely have the advantage in the series, the Dallas Mavericks shouldn't be counted out yet. They still have the best player in the series, and perhaps we'll see them bounce back from these two losses.
