The abysmal state of the Lakers has been a topic of conversation for months now. Since the start of the season, there has been a sense that something with the team is just not quite right.
With half of the campaign in the rearview window now, that sense has only intensified within the Lakers community. And now, even Magic Johnson has had enough.
After suffering their third straight loss (with their latest coming in a blowout against the Nuggets), Magic put the team on blast online, flaming them for a lack of effort and no sense of urgency.
After being blown out by the Nuggets 133-96, we as Lakers fans can accept being outplayed but we deserve more than a lack of effort and no sense of urgency. Owner @JeanieBuss, you deserve better.
Unfortunately for Magic, he was in attendance on Saturday night, so he had a front-row view of the disastrous loss.
Of course, it wasn't too long ago that Magic had a say over the organization's basketball moves. When he served as President years ago, he helped sign LeBron James and bring the franchise back from the dead.
He marked the end of his tenure in a now-infamous press conference that Magic himself says he would have done a little differently.
“The only thing I probably would’ve did was probably talked to LeBron before I stepped down, because I felt that I owed him that, so that’s probably the only mistake I made was not talking to Jeanie and talking to LeBron before I actually did it,” Johnson said, via the New York Times. “So, yes, I would do that different.”
Now that Magic is on the sidelines, all he can do is watch and wait like the rest of us. Despite his usually optimistic attitude, it seems even he is fed up with how things are trending this season.
It remains to be seen if anything will change. With the trade deadline approaching, you can bet that ROb Oelinka will be hard at work trying to find a way to improve.
Obviously, that will prove to be easier said than done.
