Magic Johnson has shown his picks for all the NBA awards since the start of the season and now that the campaign is reaching its end, the Los Angeles Lakers legend explained why Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic should take the coveted award home this season.
A couple of weeks after stating that Stephen Curry was the 2021 MVP award for him, he changed his mind and selected Jokic as the Most Valuable Player in the league. It's not a secret that the big man has done a lot of great things this campaign but it took a little more for Magic to realize he's the rightful winner of the award.
"Steph Curry left no doubt about who the real MVP is tonight! He scored 49 points and led his Warriors to victory over the Sixers 107-96." Magic tweeted in April.
Now things have changed and the 5x NBA champion went with Jokic, saying he's been the most consistent player this season, although other names like LeBron James or Joel Embiid were favorites at the start of the term.
"LeBron and Joel Embiid started the season leading the MVP race, then Steph Curry had a hot streak...BUT the most consistent guy all season long has been Nikola Jokić. He’s led his team to a 9-1 record since star guard Jamal Murray went out, proving he’s worthy of being named MVP."
The NBA ladder has Jokic as the clear favorite to win the award this season and as the days go by, the Serbian player confirms that. Sure, Stephen Curry keeps playing great basketball, destroying rivals night in and night out but the Joker doesn't seem to have a big competition to win the most important award in the NBA.
