Mark Cuban Says The Mavs Almost Traded For Kobe And Shaq

It would have been a strange universe to watch Kobe Bryant play in a Mavericks jersey. But, according to Mavs owner Mark Cuban, that was almost the case a couple of years ago as he said in a revealing interview on “Fair Game with Kristine Leahy.”

The deal which Cuban believed to be done at the time included Jason Terry, Josh Howard, and multiple picks. However, before making it official, Lakers owner Jerry Buss had one final conversation with Kobe, who then decided he wanted to remain with the Lakers.

As for Shaq, Cuban was never able to get ahold of him, despite apparently being close during his days in Phoenix.

Obviously, players like Kobe and Shaq would have been an amazing pairing next to Dallas legend Dirk Nowitzki. But, alas, Cuban and the Mavs never pulled off such a deal. Kobe stayed in Los Angeles where he would close out his career, while Shaq moved from Phoenix to the Cleveland Cavaliers and then to the Boston Celtics to end his career.

We'll have to leave it up to our imaginations to determine what might have been.
