One of the most surprising teams of the 2021 season has been the Utah Jazz, who currently boast the best record in the NBA. But despite their 26-6 record, many still doubt their status as an elite title contender.
Are they really on the level of the Lakers, Clippers, and Nets?
According to ESPN's Max Kellerman, they absolutely are -- and have, in fact, overtaken the Purple and Gold as the best team in basketball. Here's what the analyst said on a segment on First Take:
“The Utah Jazz are the best team in the NBA and they’re playing the best basketball. They’ve replaced the Lakers.”
Unlike many teams around the association, Utah is dominating on offense and defense, with several of their players (Mike Conley, Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert) having the best stretch of their careers.
In the 32 games they've played, the Jazz have led by 20 or more points 20 times. Many, including LeBron James and Steve Kerr, believe they are the real deal.
Still, there remain some serious questions about the squad. Can they keep up their performance in the playoffs? Can their defense keep up with the insanely high-powered Nets offense?
It looks like we'll just have to wait and find out for ourselves.
