With the NBA season unlikely to return, we might never know who would have won the title, among other things.
But according to former wing player Metta World Peace (who is admittedly biased) he believes it's justifiable to name the Lakers as this seasons' Champions.
"At this point, you can justify why you just give the Championship to the Lakers. You know, we had an unforeseen event, sorry!"
Metta didn't elaborate much the comment, but he openly admitted that he had a special connection to the Purple and Gold. He played there from 2009-2013 and helped them win back-to-back NBA Championships.
But whether or not they deserve to win the title this year is questionable. They didn't even have the best record in the league and the West has no shortage of challenges. Who is to say that none of them would have upset L.A. in a seven-game series?
What makes much more sense is a March-madness style event, in which each team plays through a bracket until the final two teams remaining battle it out in the final round.
Of course, there is the possibility that this season might not come back at all. In light of the circumstances, the NBA may be better off just calling the 2019-20 campaign a wash and waiting until October to kick things off again.
We'll just have to wait and see.
