One of the biggest sagas for the next NBA season and offseason will be Giannis Antetokounmpo and his future with the Milwaukee Bucks. Giannis has been unable to reach the Finals in the last two seasons despite having the best record in the league on each occasion and most fans and analysts believe the clock is ticking for the Bucks to assemble the best team for him to compete in the East.
This season they lost in the second round of the playoffs against the Miami Heat, leaving a poor image, only winning one game in the series. That set the alarms for the Bucks and sparked many rumors about the players' future. Giannis reunited with the team's ownership and he will stay one more season in Wisconsin to try to win with the Bucks. Yet, a lot of people believe he could be traded this season or simply join another team in the 2021 free agency if the Bucks are unable to at least play in the Finals next year.
However, one NBA agent believes the key to keeping Giannis in Milwaukee is Chris Paul. The veteran point guard just finished a great season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, taking the young team to the playoffs when nobody believed in them. Now Paul is looking for another challenge and several teams around the league have been linked with them. The Bucks are one of those and this agent is convinced he is the perfect guy for them.
The Athletic conducted a poll where they asked 20 NBA agents a series of questions about the hottest topics in the league right now. Five of the agents said the Bucks are the team that most needs to make a big trade and one dared to dropped a name.
“They’re on the clock with Giannis. I think it would be they just have too much at stake. They have potential championships hanging in the balance if you lose this guy and I think he’s going to want to see some kind of improvement from them.
I think Chris Paul, financially they’d have to figure it out, but he’s exactly what they need there.”
Paul might be 35 but he showed he can still be important and lead a team to compete. He took his Thunder to the 5th position in the stacked Western Conference and took the Houston Rockets to a 7th game in the first round of the postseason. He was named an All-Star once again and showed the quality he seemed to have lost during his last year with the Houston Rockets. The Bucks need to make a move on Paul if they want to succeed in the East and with his attempts to keep Giannis on the roster.
However, they'll have to beat a couple of teams that will also try to convince the Thunder to trade away the veteran point guard.
