The Lakers are having a stellar start to their season. Through 7 games, the Lakers are 6-1, near the top of every statistical category, and are dominating their opponents behind the performances of their two stars, LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

But there is room for improvement, and it is no secret that the team is looking for another ball-handling veteran.

Andre Iguodala fits that mold and NBA executives are convinced he will find his way to the Purple and Gold before the end of the season.

I posed this question to multiple NBA executives Monday and Tuesday morning. Not all of them answered. But of those who did, every single one of them said the Lakers. “Best combination of ring chance and role,” one longtime team boss said. I thought someone would say the Clippers. None did. (Wait; just got one guy who says Clippers, but does so with no particular enthusiasm.) That means nothing, of course; the Clips stayed silent all through the KawhiStakes and wound up getting their man in large part because they kept their mouths shut. Also, there’s always a stealth team out there who sneaks into the mix.

Last season for the Warriors, Iguodala averaged 5.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists on 50.0 percent shooting from the field, 33.3 percent from beyond the arc and 58.2 percent from the free-throw line. He put up 9.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists in the 2019 playoffs.

While the 35-year-old forward would not be putting up All-Star numbers, he'd help lead the troops alongside LeBron and Davis. He provides another ball-handler, an experienced mind, and defensive intensity.

Needless to say, he would be a big get for L.A. Only time will tell if they can close the deal on acquiring him.
