Tim Duncan is arguably one of the best power forwards to play in the NBA. While he was an exceptional two-way talent, he was not the most stylish athlete.
The 6'11" big man was only interested in playing basketball and did not care much for looking flashy. As a result, many criticized his fashion sense.
In an unrelated tweet, an NBA fan drew a comparison with Duncan's dressing after the lady uploaded pictures of items of clothing she wants to "spoil her man with." The nature of the outfits looked so much like things Duncan has been seen wearing to games, and a fan responded:
"Girl dating Tim Duncan."
Social media platform Twitter has been buzzing since then as fans took the opportunity to come at Duncan. Many have sourced images of Duncan to buttress the point being made, and fans have had a field time making jokes.
Despite him not being stylish, he delivered on the job he was paid to do. The Big Fundamental played the game the right way and was not looking to showboat.
Duncan was selected with the 1st overall pick in the 1997 NBA draft by the San Antonio Spurs, and he played his entire career with the team. In his rookie season, he started all 82 games for the Spurs and averaged 21.1 points and 11.9 rebounds. With his performance, he earned the Rookie of the Year award.
Through the course of his 19-year career, he led the Spurs to five NBA championships and won the Finals MVP on three occasions. Added to that were 15 All-Star selections, 15 All-Defensive teams selections, and 15 All-NBA selections. He was also part of the NBA's 75th anniversary team.
Duncan was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame last year and has his jersey number (21) hanging in the rafters at AT&T Center. He played 1,389 games throughout his career and averaged 19.0 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.2 blocks.
