After landing a superstar like Russell Westbrook, the Los Angeles Lakers are anything but finished this offseason. Now it's time to fill the rest of the spots on the roster with some players that can give them what they need to compete for the championship again.
The purple and gold have been linked with DeMar DeRozan, Carmelo Anthony, and more veterans in recent days. Still, they're not the only ones who could land in L.A. this summer.
According to Broderick Turner of The Los Angeles Times, Dwight Howard could return to the team for the third time after two different stints in 2013 and 2020.
The Lakers need shooting. One name that is coming up is Patty Mills. He can shoot the lights out and would be great off the bench. Wayne Ellington is another shooter who has interest in rejoining the Lakers. Trevor Ariza and Andre Iguodala are veteran wings who are candidates. Carmelo Anthony is interested, just waiting on a call from the Lakers when free agency opens Monday. Guess who might be back for a third time? Yup, Dwight Howard is ready to return and play center. Jeff Green and Goran Dragic also are names to look out for.
A lot has been said about Anthony Davis and his willingness to play at center. Even though he's reportedly ready to play more minutes at the 5, landing Howard would benefit the Lakers. He proved to be a great piece for the team during their 2020 championship run, and now that they're looking to relive those moments, linking with D-12 sounds like a good idea.
Still, Howard isn't the only player who could find his way to L.A. this offseason, but seeing how well he played the last time he was in SoCal (and the bubble), this match makes sense for the team.
