Kevin Durant's heartbreaking injury impacts more than the outcome of the NBA Finals. It changes the entire trajectory of the NBA. Teams that were set on recruiting Kevin Durant this summer will have to adjust their plans one way or another.
Some are even questioning whether or not he will be on the move at all. In the wake of his injury, Durant can guarantee himself a huge money payout of over $31 million if he opts into his player option with the Warriors next year. While that possibility exists, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski believes it is a last resort for the 10x All-Star.
Multiple teams are reportedly still willing to offer Durant a 4-year max deal, even if it means he will miss all of next season. Additionally, the Warriors will likely offer a shiny new max contract to Durant as well, even if he does opt-out.
The point is, KD will be hitting free agency this summer. Whether or not he will be leaving Golden State is one thing, but him getting long-term security is something we don't have to doubt.
