Just a day after the finale of the 2018-19 season, the Kings ultimately decided to fire their head coach Dave Joerger. As they enter a crucial offseason, they have to be swift in bringing in his replacement, which The Athletic’s Sam Amick notes could be Lakers head coach could Luke Walton.
Dave Joerger was a relatively surprising fire for the Kings. He led the team to their best season in at least ten years and helped further the development of young stars De'Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield.
Luke, meanwhile, had a less than fulfilling tenure in Los Angeles. He failed to get a LeBron-led Laker team to the playoffs while being submerged in trade rumors from the media and finger-pointing from within the organization.
The Kings obviously feel that Luke would do a better job speaking to their young guys than Joerger ever did, but is it the right assumption? The answer better be yes, especially when the team was finally starting to get their act together.
