The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off winning the NBA Championship but that doesn't mean that they're satisfied. They know all their rivals will get better and they'll have to keep up with the rest of the Western Conference teams by making a couple of moves of their own.
And, judging by most of the rumors we've seen and heard lately, it seems like Kyle Kuzma has already priced himself out of the team, while Danny Green would most likely also be traded for salary-matching purposes in virtually every deal they do.
For starters, Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report recently claimed that the Los Angeles Lakers don't want to meet Kyle Kuzma's asking price, thus they could try and flip them for Victor Oladipo, who's reportedly trying to get out of the Indiana Pacers:
"According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, Kuzma, who is eligible for an extension, "is expecting a sizable deal." Rather than pay up for a flawed rotation player whose reputation has always outstripped his production, the Lakers now have every incentive to move him off quickly. One way to do that: Package him with Danny Green and a future first-round pick for the expiring contract of Victor Oladipo," Hughes said.
Moreover, Ramona Shelbourne of ESPN added that the Los Angeles Lakers inquired about Dennis Schroder ahead of last season's trade deadline and that even though he claimed that he doesn't want to play for the Lakers or Clippers, they may still be interested in him right now, especially with the Thunder kicking off their rebuild:
“The Lakers called about Schroder at the trade deadline, so they have interest in him. I think they’ve called now. You can’t make any trades now, or yet, that’s going to come next week. Yeah, they definitely have interest in him. It’s just, what does Sam Presti think he can get for him, and what is the maximum value? Do they have the best offer? ... 28 (the 28th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft) and Danny Green? Does that work? Pick No. 28 and Danny Green? Maybe. I think there are better offers, but we’ll see what Sam Presti thinks," Shelbourne reported.
If that wasn't enough, the Los Angeles Lakers have also been tied to DeMar DeRozan recently. DeMar denied the rumors of his desire to leave the San Antonio Spurs but it's clear that he's far from the player they need right now. Also, with San Antonio looking to move LaMarcus Aldridge, the timing would be perfect for them to swoop in:
"They’re also looking to unload LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan; I’ve heard the Lakers have interest in acquiring DeRozan (for Kyle Kuzma and Danny Green), and as mentioned, the Warriors may want Aldridge," O'Connor pointed.
While it's obvious that the Lakers won't be able to land all these three players in the offseason, it's pretty clear that Rob Pelinka is going to work extra hours to further improve their roster. Add LeBron James and Anthony Davis to that mix and the purple-and-gold might as well go back-to-back next season.
