The Dallas Mavericks are currently the 5th seed in the Western Conference, with a 27-20 record. They have done well this year to be a playoff team and avoid the play-in tournament, and Luka Doncic has been absolutely phenomenal for the team. He is currently putting up 25.6 PPG, 8.8 RPG, and 8.7 APG.

While it is obvious that the team has done well this season, there's always room for improvement, even on the best rosters. Sometimes, the improvement can come via adding other players to the roster via trades.

It seems as though the Dallas Mavericks do in fact have some players that they'd be interested in targeting in a trade. Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report has revealed that the Mavericks were a "dark-horse team" for Pistons forward Jerami Grant while adding that they were also linked to Hawks forward John Collins and Celtics guard Marcus Smart.

One dark-horse team mentioned as being interested in Grant was the Dallas Mavericks, with Dorian Finney-Smith and probably Dwight Powell as the primary pieces. The Mavericks have also been linked to Collins in Atlanta and Marcus Smart in Boston.

All three of these players could help the Dallas Mavericks in some form. John Collins would likely play well with Luka Doncic as a lob threat and a big man who can space the floor, while Jerami Grant would give the team another perimeter shot creator and wing defender. Marcus Smart is just a solid perimeter defender who can also get hot from the 3PT range at times. Jerami Grant in particular has been linked with a lot of other teams, so the Dallas Mavericks will have competition on that front.

The Dallas Mavericks will likely still be able to make the playoffs without a major trade, but getting a difference-maker prior to or at the trade deadline wouldn't hurt. It remains to be seen if the Dallas Mavericks do indeed make a move, but it definitely seems like a possibility.
