When the Lakers lucked out with the 4th pick in the 2019 draft, the world knew the chances of them actually keeping the pick were slim. With LeBron James on the roster, the Lakers do not have time to develop talent, especially guys they might acquire at the 4th pick.
They are likely to use the pick as trade bait in the pursuit of Anthony Davis.
But might their efforts be in vain? According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, the Pels have not yet grown an interest in making a deal with the Lakers.
Besides from the owners' personal bias against the team, they do not seem sold on the young talent they contain. Brandon Ingram is good but also very flawed and is coming off a blood clot. Lonzo Ball has always struggled to stay healthy, and will never have a complete game if he cannot fix his shot. Kyle Kuzma is probably their best asset but is no wizard on the defensive end.
All-in-all, even with the 4th pick, the Lakers' offer leaves much to be desired. Their best bet to acquire a star remains free-agency, but even there -- their chances do not necessarily look good.
