NBA Rumors: Top 5 Best Destinations For Pau Gasol

Fadeaway World

Fadeaway World

According to reports, it looks like Pau Gasol and the San Antonio Spurs are through with each other, as the Spaniard wanted to be traded away from the team but Gregg Popovich didn’t find any suitor for his services.

The Spurs could just waive him in the offseason before his contract becomes fully guaranteed in July, but with him wanting to actually play and help a contending team, he’s likely going to be bought out.

Gasol still has a lot left on the tank and could be a great help for a team trying to make a playoff push. He’s got Championship experience and can truly lead off the bench. Today, we’re going to let you know about the top 5 destinations for him, should the Spurs buy him out.

5. Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics are one of the most stacked teams in the league. Brad Stevens thrives off his long rotation and depth, and adding Pau Gasol may give them another scorer off the bench as they try to hold on to the 3rd seed in the East.

Gasol could be paired with Robert Williams off the bench and create quite a dynamic frontcourt with his ability to stretch the floor. Also, he’s a very similar player to Al Horford when it comes to his playmaking.

4. Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets desperately crave height right now, as their starting 5 combined height is 6’4’’, and they get torched inside every time a team decides to go big, especially without Clint Capela.

Gasol may not be perfectly suited for a run and gun kind of offense, but still, he’d be great in all-shooting lineups, something Mike D’Antoni loves. He’d have to give up on those mid-range jumpers, though.

3. Golden State Warriors

Pau Gasol wants to win another Championship before retiring, and there’s no easier path to Larry O’Brien Trophy that just joining the reigning champs, the Golden State Warriors, as we may all know by now.

Moreover, the Warriors were reportedly interested in adding depth to their big men spot with them not sold in Bell or Looney. He’d be able to contribute on limited playing time, and could even pull up from three with his sharpshooting abilities.

2. Toronto Raptors

Well, Marc Gasol has already joined the Toronto Raptors in a shocking deadline day move, so why not try and join forces with his brother to play like they’ve done in Spain’s national team hundreds of times?

The Toronto Raptors need to fill some roster spots because of the Marc Gasol did and they’re in a prime position to rule the East, but they always tend to underperform in the playoffs because of their lack of veteran leadership, so his experience could really come handy.

1. Milwaukee Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks have taken the Eastern Conference for assault and have shown no signs of slowing down, and one of their X-factors has been the way Mike Budenholzer has used Brook Lopez.

Even at his age, Pau is a very similar player to Brook and with Thon Maker out of the team, they’re lacking depth at the big men spot. It’s a reach, but the Bucks might mess around and make the Finals.
