According to John Hollinger of The Athletic, the Raptors could make a run at Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2021 free-agency.
“There is one giant, long-armed Greek shadow looming over every decision this franchise makes. Sources say the Raptors are likely to be one of the chief pursuers of Giannis Antetokounmpo if and when he hits the 2021 free-agent market, so any moves that eliminate the possibility of max cap space that summer would be extremely unlikely.”
Many teams have looked at Antetokounmpo as the next big free-agent prize, but the Raptors could be among the strongest suitors in the race for The Greek Freak. Following the departure of Kawhi, the team has been able to stay relatively competitive in the East behind Kyle Lowry, Marc Gasol, and Pascal Siakam. With a gaping hole in the frontcourt, Giannis would do wonders in helping the team earn their second Championship in franchise history.
Though Giannis has shown no signs of wanting to leave Milwaukee, that could change if things go sour for the franchise within the next two seasons.
Last campaign, the Greek Freak won the NBA MVP, averaging 27 points, 12 rebounds, and 5.9 assists on 57% shooting. He took the Bucks to the Eastern Conference Finals last season, where they lost to Kawhi and the Raptors.
