When Kawhi Leonard led the Raptors to an NBA Championship this past summer, many in the community were ready to call him the greatest player on the planet.

While that seemed like an appropriate title at the time, LeBron James has come to reclaim his throne his season. And, according to Nick Wright, that's exactly what he's done.

"For 9 1/2 games Kawhi was the best player in basketball. That's it. ... Championships matter more than anything. But you can't be the best player in the league for 2 weeks & all of a sudden you get to wear that title. LeBron's still the best player in basketball."

Kawhi Leonard dominated the league for weeks while LeBron was sitting on the sidelines from home.

But since the new season began, James has returned to his MVP-level of play while Kawhi has already missed several games due to "load management." The Lakers have opened the season with one of the best records in the NBA.

In time, the race for MVP will be headlined by both players as they seek to meet their goals this season. And while the debate will be ongoing, don't expect LeBron to just give up his title for anyone, not yet. As long as he's around and he's healthy, he will be competing like the rest of them.
