Toronto Raptors' Pascal Siakam had a very good 2018/19 season, where he helped his team win the NBA championship led by Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Lowry, and the Cameroonian big man against the Golden State Warriors in the 2019 Finals.
The 2019/20 season wasn't that good for him and his performances in the bubble confirmed that he wasn't having the best time. Although he's getting a lot better this term, Siakam lost the status he had in the league and now is fighting to get back to that good level he showed two seasons ago.
The biggest downfall for Siakam came recently when the All-Star votes were revealed and fans found out that the player decreased his popularity big time.
One Redditor called 'BackgroundEmu9' revealed that Siakam had lost a lot of votes comparing this season to the prior one.
Today, I was curious and ended up comparing the final voting results for the starters of the 2020 and 2021 All-Star Game, and noticed Siakam had lost 2,946,913 votes between 2020 and 2021.
Siakam's 2020 votes - 106 player votes (3rd among East frontcourt players), 50 media votes (4th among East frontcourt), and 3,293,494 fan votes (2nd among East frontcourt).
Siakam's 2021 votes - 19 player votes (12th among East frontcourt players), 0 media votes (7th), and 346,581 fans votes (11th).
Siakam, just like the Raptors, is trying to get back to his best form and things are getting better for them in recent times. Perhaps the narrative will be different next season but right now, Pascal and his team need to step up if they want people to remember their names for analysis and the All-Star voting.
