Paul George Wanted To Play For Lakers, But They Never Traded For Him

Paul George has recently re-signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder after many believed he was on his way out of OKC and returning home to Los Angeles. It turns out that the Lakers had a genuine chance of landing the 5-time NBA All-Star a year ago when he was leaving Indiana.

According to ESPN, Paul George told Lakers fans that he was interested in playing in L.A at the end of last season but the Lakers didn’t go for him.

In Part 3 of Paul George’s video series on ESPN, he revealed that he would have loved to be back home in L.A playing for the Lakers a year ago but it just didn’t work out that way.

“I 100 percent appreciate Laker Nation for wanting me to come back home, wanting me to play in front of them,” George said. “I wanted to come here a year ago prior to going to OKC. I, unfortunately, wasn’t traded to the Lakers. The Lakers didn’t grab me. I was traded to Oklahoma, and that has been a beautiful thing for me.”

The Lakers have picked up many talented players already in the off-season so far, none bigger than LeBron James. Laker fans would have loved to see the duo of LeBron and George team up in L.A looking to achieve the Lakers first championship since 2010.

However, there is still always hope for the Lakers to land another big fish in Kawhi Leonard which would increase the franchise's chances of taking down last season’s champions, the Golden State Warriors.
