It’s not a secret that Shaquille O’Neal was quite a character during his days as a basketball player, racking up plenty of stories that make people laugh even nowadays when years have passed. We recently learned how he had a secret code with his Lakers teammates to keep the ball away from Kobe Bryant during the time they spent together.
Three years ago, the big man and his former coach Phil Jackson reunited in New York for an American Express event, in which ESPN’s Hannah Storm got the pair to open up about how champions are made in the NBA and how the Lakers became a dynasty again in the 2000s.
But, that wasn’t the most impressive thing of the night, as Jackson provided one anecdote of probably the craziest thing Shaq did during his stint with the Purple and Gold, per For The Win.
“Well, you know, numbers of times, he could crack a team up with humorous effects on the floor. There were times when he shocked us all in a practice situation, especially when he showed up nude with just his shoes on.”
Shaq’s response? “I don’t remember,” he said with a smile.
Well, this was not the first time we heard about Shaq’s antics involving nudity. Former Suns head coach Alvin Gentry said in 2014 that this was a common practice for the four-time NBA champion while he played in Phoenix (via SI.com):
“The coach said 'every few days or every week or so' the big man would come barreling around a locker room corner completely nude and tackle a teammate or coaching staff member to the ground where he would roll around with them in what he called 'Brazilian naked wrestling.'"
It looks like Shaq has a lot of stories from his career. This guy can easily write a book.
