The Portland Trail Blazers have offered CJ McCollum a massive contract, a three-year. $100 million contract extension. The new contract has now been extended to five years that’s worth a $157 million all up, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
McCollum has been an incredible asset for the Trail Blazers and the franchise have shown their faith in him by offering him this massive contract extension. The shooting guard was selected by Portland in the 2013 NBA Draft and has been apart of the franchise ever since.
However, alongside Damien Lillard, the Trail Blazers are about to spend a very expensive amount of money on the two stars over the next few seasons. Over the next five years, the Blazers will be spending up to a combined total of $410 million on Damien Lillard and CJ McCollum.
The two have been both loyal and strong players for the franchise, yet it’s still a lot of money to be spending on just two players. Lillard and McCollum have been instrumental in creating playoffs success for the Blazers, the duo could be considered as one of the best backcourts in the league at this time.
The franchise believes that these two stars are the key to bringing success to Portland. An impressive postseason run saw the Blazers make the Western Conference Final where they were swept by the Golden State Warriors. To make it one round further is going to be extremely tough considering how dominant the Western Conference is at the moment with both Los Angeles teams having very strong rosters.
The Blazers still shouldn’t be counted out, the franchise has traded for Hassan Whiteside and re-signed Rodney Hood. It’s still a very competitive roster and it should be exciting to see how they fare next season.
