Last night was a perfect example of one of those "too soon" moments.
In the aftermath of Zion's shoe malfunction, Puma seized the opportunity to troll their rivals (Nike) for making a product that failed one of basketball's brightest young stars on, perhaps, the nations biggest stage.
Indeed, it was the perfect opportunity to take a jab at Nike. It was their shoe, after all, that almost literally exploded on the court. The timing, though, was less than ideal, especially considering Zion actually got hurt on the same play.
Nike issued out this statement regarding the issue:
“We are obviously concerned and want to wish Zion a speedy recovery," Nike said in a statement. "The quality and performance of our products are of utmost importance. While this is an isolated occurrence, we are working to identify the issue.”
Puma, meanwhile, has yet to say anything, and look kind of bad in all of this.
Here's hoping the best to Zion and, also, to Puma, in hopes they think twice about their marketing ploys in the future.
