The Golden State Warriors will have to focus on more than just Kevin Durant's impending free agency this season it seems, as even though Durant will be the most sought-after FA in his class next summer, Klay Thompson's decision will be equally as important to the Warriors.
Thompson will also become an unrestricted free agent alongside Kevin Durant, and will be wanted by almost every team who has the cap space to sign the sharpshooter.
Thompson has stated multiple times in the past Golden State is the perfect situation for him and is where he wants to be, but a lot can change over the course of an NBA regular season, and according to Zach Lowe of ESPN, Thompson won't be looking to make things easy for the Warriors to retain him.
"Thompson has no plans to take a discount, and the Warriors don’t expect him to, league sources say."
With KD having taken discounts multiple times to sign and stay with the Warriors, it's more than likely that Durant will be looking for the max this coming summer, as will Thompson -- who can demand a contract worth almost $190 million -- meaning Golden State may be in a position where they have to decide between KD and Klay.
With Steph Curry already locked up for the next several seasons with a supermax contract, Durant and Klay wanting their own max contracts, and Draymond Green hitting free agency after next season, the Warriors could be looking very different in the next few years.
