It's been long overdue now... but, finally, the 76ers have officially hired their new GM.
Thing is, it's not who anybody expected.
Rather than brining in someone well-known, the team decided to hire Elton Brand, former 2x All-Star and executive vice president of basketball operations.
ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski has more:
Brand made a strong impression on ownership and coach Brett Brown in the interview process, beating out several more experienced candidates inside and outside the Sixers organization, sources said. Ultimately, ownership believed Brand had sold them on vision, preparedness and the ability to grow into the role at a crucial time for the organization.
Crazy enough, Brand was literally on the player roster a little over two years ago.
Obviously, for someone with so little front-office experience, taking over the reigns of an ogranization will be a challenging ordeal, especially with so much at stake.
Hopefully the team's interesting choice will pay of in the end because, if it doesn't, it could spell disaster for a team with so much optimism for the years to come.
