Richard Jefferson's Father Killed In Drive-By Shooting In Compton

You never want to see anyone go through the death of a loved one, especially someone who's in the public eye.

According to TMZ Sports, the father of former Cleveland Cavalier and 2016 NBA champion Richard Jefferson, Richard Jefferson Sr., was shot and killed in an apparent drive-by shooting in Compton on Wednesday night.

The 65-year-old was standing out in front of a liquor store around 7PM in a primarily residential area when a car pulled up in front of him and began to open fire.

Jefferson Sr. was struck multiple times in the torso. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to witnesses, Jefferson Sr. was with two other men at the time of the shooting, and it's unclear if he was the target of the attack, or just an innocent bystander.

Previous reports have stated that Richard Jefferson and his father have had an estranged relationship ever since his mother and father split when he was a young boy. Jefferson's mother moved him to Phoenix from Compton after the pair split up, to raise him with her new husband.

Regardless of their relationship though, Jefferson Sr. was still Richard's biological father, and there's no doubt Jefferson would be grieving about his passing.
