Rumor: There Is 'No Chance' Giannis Antetokounmpo Stays With The Bucks

Milwaukee Bucks All-Star Giannis Antetokounmpo is locked up with the Bucks for the next few seasons, signing a four-year, $100 million extension deal back in 2016, which runs through to the offseason of 2021, but according to a former NBA GM, Milwaukee better hope they can win with him before then, as there is 'no way' Giannis will stay with the Bucks after his contract is up.

“It’s tough for small-market teams,” the former GM told Alex Kennedy of Hoops Hype. “There’s no way in hell that Giannis Antetokounmpo is staying in Milwaukee for his second deal. I would bet everything I own that Giannis leaves Milwaukee.”

The quote from the anonymous GM is extremely puzzling, as Antetokounmpo has gone on the record multiple times to express his love for the city of Milwaukee because of how low-profile it is compared to more big-market cities in the NBA.

Giannis was asked after the 2018 All-Star game -- held in Los Angeles -- how he felt about the city of LA while staying there for All-Star weekend, and his answer sure pleased Milwaukee fans, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

“I could never see myself being out there [in LA],” Antetokounmpo said. “It’s great for two, three days but it’s a little bit — things are going a little bit crazy. Of course, because of the All-Star Game, there was a lot of people there. In Milwaukee — I love Milwaukee — it’s low-key. I can walk down the road, down the streets without anybody bugging me — nobody interrupts my conversation or anything. I love how quiet and calm Milwaukee is.”

There's still another three years left on Giannis contract heading into this upcoming season, so the Bucks still have plenty of time to try and change his mind with some continued success in Milwaukee.
