Several Insiders Reportedly Believe That Moving Russell Westbrook To The Bench Could Solve Lakers Problems

NBA Fans Are Flooding Russell Westbrook's Last Instagram Post With 'Westbrick' Comments

After the defeat against the Los Angeles Clippers, the Los Angeles Lakers are now on a 4-game losing streak. On top of that, they have lost eight out of their last 10 games. It seems like the 2020 NBA champions have hit rock bottom.

Forget about making a push for the playoffs, the Lakers are on the verge of losing their spot in the NBA play-in tournament too. There are several things that didn't go as planned for the team. NBA analyst Charles Barkley recently pointed out that the veterans that the Lakers signed are already cooked.

Apart from that, unarguably the biggest surprise and the problem for the Purple & Gold has been inconsistent performances from Russell Westbrook. When the franchise traded for the former MVP, they expected him to gel with the team's already established superstar duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Unfortunately, that is yet to happen this season. Moreover, it seems that Brodie is on the verge of losing his starting spot on the current Lakers team. Several NBA insiders have anonymously stated that they believe that if head coach Frank Vogel benches Westbrook, it could solve their issues.

Via The Athletic:

"Perhaps [Frank] Vogel will never make the move to bench Westbrook, something many league insiders have pointed to as a solution to the on-court issues facing the Lakers. It may not be worth the pain it would cause. But the fact Vogel is willing to publicly entertain the idea of sitting the former MVP and the Lakers’ highest-paid player speaks to the depths to which the team has sunk."

It's tough to see how Westbrook's career has spiraled downward at a high pace. The former MVP was once one of the most enjoyable players to watch in the league. But now, he has become a shell of himself and is more of a hindrance to his team than an asset.

NBA analyst Jason McIntyre believes that Russell Westbrook might not even find a spot on any team once his current contract is over. Well, that might be a bit of a stretch, but who knows?
