ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith has big expectations about the Philadelphia 76ers and the things they can do this upcoming season. In fact, Smith believes Philly is going to make a statement next season by qualifying to the biggest series of all.
During Friday’s edition of First Take, Stephen A. picked Philly to make it to the NBA Finals in 2019/20.
"The Philadelphia 76ers are going to the NBA Finals,” he said, pointing out that the Boston Celtics still had the best perimeter-oriented attack in the league and could be a danger for the Sixers or any other team in the league.
This summer was good for them, who could land some good names. Even though they lost Jimmy Butler, they got a very good player in Josh Richardson from the Miami Heat. Moreover, they retained Tobias Harris and got a good deal for Al Horford, who played really good against them, and especially Joel Embiid, in the past.
Smith is not the first one to make a bold statement about the team, as Charles Barkley recently picked them as the favorite to win it all next campaign.
Although they lost JJ Redick in the offseason, Ben Simmons’ jump shot has created huge expectations for Philly’s fans, who have reasons to be confident in their team ahead of a season that can bring a lot of joy to them.
Last season Kawhi Leonard and the Raptors damaged their plans to transcend in the playoffs, but this one, things could be considerably different.
