Looking back in the NBA, there have been many notable players that have come from second-round draft picks, but who has been the best? Looking back at players drafted from 2005 and on, I rank the 5 best second-round picks.

5. Deandre Jordan

Jordan was drafted with the 35th pick in the 2008 draft after spending one year at Texas A&M. He has played eight seasons in the NBA, all with the Clippers.He has become a major force in the paint over the past few years, leading the league in field goal percentage the past four seasons.

He has also led the league in rebounding twice, averaging 14.1 rebounds per game over the last three seasons combined and has also averaged over 2 blocks per game in the same span. Jordan has twice been on the defensive first team and made the All-NBA first team this past season, and the third team in 2015

4. Isaiah Thomas

No, not the Pistons Isiah Thomas from the 90’s. The Celtics leader of today, Isaiah Thomas. He was taken with the 60th pick in the 2011 draft. After playing three years at Washington, he entered the draft.

Thomas played three seasons with the Kings, half of one with the Suns, and a season and a half with the Celtics. He has quickly become the team’s best player, averaging 22 points and 6 assists per game in the past season. He also was named to the All-Star team as a reserve in 2016.

3. Draymond Green

Green was taken with the 35th pick in the 2012 draft after spending four years at Michigan State. He has played four years in the league and has become one of the most versatile players in the game. Green averaged 14 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game this past season.

He is also a two-time member of the defensive first team, made one All-Star team, and is the only player in this list to have won a championship or make a finals appearance.

2. Paul Millsap

Millsap went 47th overall to the Jazz in 2006 after spending three years at Louisiana Tech. He played seven seasons with the Jazz before signing with the Hawks and has played three seasons for them. Millsap has averaged about 17 points and almost 9 rebounds per game in each season he has been with the Hawks, also making the All-Star team in each of those three seasons.

He has been a core in the Hawks lineup, especially in 2015, when he helped the team to the best Eastern Conference record in the regular season.

1. Marc Gasol

You might not believe it, but Marc Gasol was the 48th overall pick in the 2007 draft. Gasol is the franchise player for the Grizzlies and has been since he was drafted, making him the easy choice for the top of this list. Drafted by the Lakers but traded to the Grizzlies right after, he has spent every season he has played with Memphis. Gasol has started all but seven games in his career, all of which were in his rookie season. He led the Grizzlies to the playoffs in five straight seasons, from 2011-2015.

Gasol has averaged around 17 points and 8 rebounds per game over the past two seasons. He is also a two-time All-Star, has one First Team and one Second Team appearance, and he was on the Defensive Second Team, and has won the Defensive Player of the Year award.
