The Knicks Called Off Their Meeting With Kawhi To Pursue 'Other Free Agents'

Once again, the New York Knicks struck out on the top free agents, despite having cap space, a respectable head coach, and some talented young guns on the roster. Once again, they have become the face of memes on jokes that have taken over the internet. They are the laughing stock of the league.

And now, after the public hears why they decided to forget about their planned meeting with Kawhi Leonard this free agency, things could get even worse for them.

According to Marc Berman, the Knickerbockers elected to give up their chances at Leonard so they can target and sign other free agents.

Of course, most think it was foolish to just give up the pursuit of an All-Time player to sign guys like Reggie Bullock and Julius Randle instead. It certainly doe snot make Knicks fans feel any better.

But maybe it was smarter than we realize. Without Durant, did they really have a decent shot at landing Kawhi? Even with Durant, they would have likely been behind both the Clippers, Lakers, and Raptors in their pursuit. Why wait, and thus give up their chance at getting anybody else, to meet with a guy that probably was not going there anyway?

It is an interesting train of thought, to say the least. It makes more sense to some than others. But, no doubt, the Knicks have lost this free agency after failing to live up to all the hype of having $70 million in cap space this summer.
