In the NBA, there are rules about how long a team is supposed to wait before trading a player after he signs a contract with them. The rule states that generally speaking, players that signed with a team during the offseason cannot be traded until three months from the official signing date, or December 15th. With the COVID-19 Pandemic and adjusted starting times for the season, the original rule had to be modified.

The date that newly-signed players can be traded is coming up, which is February 6th. That means there is potential for a lot of trades, as, by this point, teams know who they want and don't want on the roster.
