The 2021-22 NBA season has been full of surprises, some good, some bad. Some of the teams that were not paid any attention to coming into the season are having incredible runs, while the top teams are performing way below expectation.
So far, the Los Angeles Lakers are one of the most disappointing teams in the league. You would think they are ranked dead last in the Western Conference standings, but that is not the case.
The Lakers are ranked 7th in the West with a 16-5 record. While that is not entirely poor, so much more was expected from the star-studded Lakers team.
According to data put together by Sportsbetting.ag, the Lakers are the most hated team in the US. They are hated in 24 of the 50 US states, followed by the Brooklyn Nets.
The information was released by Buckets on Instagram, and fans trooped in the comment section to confirm or deny the information.
"Honestly im pretty sure Lakers are most hated by LA right now."
"Ik Washington gotta be OKC"
"Whole map should b gsw they been way too good for too long"
"That should say Lebron not the lakers, cause those states just hate the team Lebron is on"
"No Michigan hates cavs"
"Lol Knicks arent most hated in Atlanta. We own them so"
"texas should be the warriors anyway"
"In NY we hate the Hawks the most"
"Damn, bron really dominated the league and sent people's favorite teams home that long huh? Dayum imagine waiting over a decade for the downfall of 1 man, and still going"
"Even Boston hates the Celtics"
"I'm a lakers fan in Massachusetts lmao"
"Lakers live in a lot of folks head rent free"
Another factor that could have led to the Lakers being hated so much is the presence of LeBron James. Even as he is one of the best players in NBA history, a lot of people do not like him for his activities on and off the court.
LeBron speaks up on a lot of societal issues, and many do not like him for that. Journalist Laura Ingraham has in the past told LeBron to "shut up and dribble." The four-time All-Star has also had a back-and-forth with former US President Donald Trump.
Regardless, the Lakers have given a lot of fans reasons to be disappointed this season. A team that was seen to be championship contenders at the start of the season might struggle throughout the season, and might feature in the play-in tournament.
