LeBron James may run the NBA now, but it wasn't always like that. Countless stars have come before come and countless more will be active long after he is retired.
But, for now (and the past decade, at least) it's been LeBron's show and everyone knows it. Even for a guy like Time Duncan, who is no stranger to success on the court, he called it years before James won his first Championship.
Check out what he told LeBron after his Spurs swept the Bron-led Cavs in the 2007 Finals.
"This is going to be your league in a little while. But I appreciate you giving it to us this year.”
The two stars shared a good chuckle and then went their separate ways, but Duncan couldn't be more right. Just three years after this exchange, James would win two MVPs and cement himself as one of the game's best players. Between 2011 and 2018, LeBron would make eight-straight Finals and win 3 NBA titles. LeBron and Duncan would eventually face off in the Finals again and James was able to beat him in 2013 before Duncan snatched another one the following year.
We haven't heard much from Duncan since, other than watching him work as a coach on the sidelines. And if his coaching talents are as good as his eye for talent, he should have a long and successful run at that level as well.
