Joel Embiid and the Toronto Raptors have a bit of history. After numerous regular-season battles, Embiid was sent home by Kawhi Leonard and company this past postseason. Since then, there has always been a sense of angst between the two.
For the first time since their playoff matchup, Embiid was given the opportunity to get revenge. Unfortunately, that revenge never came. With a zero point, 0-11 effort, his performance was less than admirable in the loss to Toronto on Monday night.
And, to nobody's surprise, the city took full advantage of what was probably Embiid's worst game as a pro.
The last time Embiid took the court against the Raptors, he was shedding tears as his team was eliminated from the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals. No doubt, he was hoping to dominate Monday night's matchup.
Needless to say, the Raptors came out on top for this one and they weren't afraid to show it. It is one moment of a spectacular season for the reigning Eastern Conference Champs. After losing Kawhi Leonard, the team was expected to drop off significantly in the East. Instead, they have been among the top teams in the NBA.
As for Embiid and the Sixers, they will have to continue to battle their demons as they seek to build upon their success last year.
