The Atlanta Hawks are not exactly at the top of everyone's leaderboards this season. With the vast majority of their players being 24-and-under, it is clear that the direction of their franchise seems more in the rebuilding category than anything else.
Still, if you ask franchise face, Trae Young, he'll suggest that you may see his team in the 2020 postseason.
“I think we have a chance to make the playoffs this year,” Young told Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports with the utmost confidence. “And I know that there are going to people out there that don’t believe it, which is fine and that comes with it. But I truly do.
Without Vince Carter on the team, we’re the youngest team in the NBA. We’re still building chemistry, but as long as the chemistry is there and we click early in the season, I think we’re going to be a tough team if we connect on the defensive end because we can score.”
He's right in one thing: the Hawks can score. Last season, they were 12th in points per game and 4th in total 3pt field goals made. With a summer of development for Trae Young and the additions of Cam Reddish and De'Andre Hunter, there is no reason to think why they won't continue to improve on that end of the floor.
But with so many young players in an improved Eastern Conference, the odds are certainly against them to make an appearance in the playoffs this upcoming season.
Trae will continue to have faith, regardless of their chances.
