Vanessa Bryant's mother has broken her silence and explained why she filed a lawsuit against her daughter, whom he claims has "abandoned" her after Kobe Bryant tragically passed away last January 26. Vanessa's mother, Sofia Laine, filed a lawsuit against her daughter last week claiming that Vanessa and her late husband Kobe Bryant had promised to take care of Laine financially for the rest of her life, something that hasn't happened so far.
This led Laine to file this lawsuit and Vanessa responded to that, explaining that her mother was asking for a lot of things, making things up and claiming she took care of her granddaughters 12 hours a day for 18 years. Bryant replied to those accusations, explaining that her mother was there when she asked her to be, not as a devoted grandma that was all about her granddaughters.
“She was a grandmother who was supported by me and her son-in-law at my request. She now wants to back-charge me $96 per hour for supposedly working 12 hours a day for 18 years for watching her grandchildren. In reality, she only occasionally babysat my older girls when they were toddlers. As of 10 years ago, our kids were full-time students and athletes and I didn’t have another child until 2016. Her claims are obviously false but I still tried, repeatedly, to work things out with my mother.”
“Contrary to what she’s saying, I haven’t left my children’s side since the accident except to visit the cemetery to make arrangements.”
Now Laine counterattacked and explained why she made such a drastic decision against her daughter. After Kobe Bryant's death, things have fallen apart for them, and Laine feels that Vanessa did her wrong after her husband left this world.
“For starters, I would like to state that I do not enjoy airing our family grievances in the public,” Laine said. “Although I filed a lawsuit, I did not make any public comments and was hoping for the court process to run its course without the publicity, as hurtful as it is. I did not want this and do not want this.
“All I wanted is what I worked for. Vanessa, despite everything that I have been promised and done for her and the family, has attempted to sever all ties and renege on all obligations and agreements. Why would she do this to her own mother? I am so disappointed, hurt, and wronged to the point that I had no choice but to file a lawsuit. I am nearly 70 years old, my health is deteriorating, and my own daughter is dong this to me?”
This issue doesn't seem to be stopping in the short future. Vanessa is not willing to give up her mother's demands and Mrs. Laine is ready to go wherever she needs to go to get what she believes is owed to her. Laine said after Kobe passed, Vanessa kicked her of her house and that was the beginning of such a sad situation.
