Houston Rockets guard, James Harden has recently been crowned this season’s NBA MVP which has created great debate on whether he deserved to win over Four-Time MVP LeBron James.
In the MVP voting totals, Harden led the first-place votes with 86 along with a total of 965 points compared to LeBron’s 15 first place votes with 738 total points.
Kyrie Irving, the Celtics guard and former teammate of LeBron has weighed his opinion on the matter. While being a guest on HOT 97 on Wednesday, Kyrie spoke about LeBron being the true NBA MVP by ticking all the boxes when basing it off statistics.
When taking a deeper look into the statistics, LeBron has played 10 more regular season matches, scored 60 more points, had 117 more assists and grabbed 320 more rebounds than Harden this season. Irving believes that while the people’s MVP was certainly Harden, the actual NBA MVP should be LeBron.
James Harden led the Houston Rockets to a franchise-best 65 wins along with finishing in the top of the Western Conference at the end of the regular season, averaging 30.4 points a game. Many believed this had more impact and was more important than LeBron James dominant statistical season.
This was Harden’s first ever MVP after finishing second in the votes twice before.
For the first time in his career, LeBron James played all 82 regular season games while having career-best averages in both Assists per game with 9.1 and Rebounds with 8.6 per game. The four-time NBA MVP hasn’t won another title since 2013 when he achieved back to back titles in Miami.
