This season, the New Orleans Pelicans are feeling optimistic about what lies ahead. Their roster is well-rounded, deep, and stacked with talented players ready to make a name for themselves.
What makes the Pels especially dangerous is their balanced mix of inside and outside scoring. When the team is not throwing down dunks, they'll be raining threes from beyond the arc.
In fact, we have already been given a glimpse into just how potent their shooters are shaping up to be.
In a released practice video of new Pelicans J.J. Redick and Lonzo Ball, they are seen competing in a friendly three-point contest during training camp. If it is a sign of things to come, the West should be fore-warned.
Perhaps most encouraging was Lonzo's new-and-improved shooting form. It's quicker, straighter, and just outright seems a lot smoother. If he can hit like that in-game, he could be a candidate for the NBA's most improved player award.
As for J.J., it seems his 35-year-old legs haven't lost a beat.
After the trade for Anthony Davis, nobody was sure how their mix of players would mesh. With Zion, Derrick Favors, J.J., Lonzo Ball, and Brandon Ingram, they have an interesting mix of youth and experience. So far, while we have yet to see much of anything, it seems everyone in New Orleans is making the best of their fresh start.
Lonzo seems to have benefited most of all.
